He keeps getting lucky with the directors he has been choosing in the last couple of years. George Clooney has really transformed into a bonafide star. I just loved his work in the last couple of years like Burn After Reading, Up in The Air, The Men Who Stare at Goats and Fantastic Mr. Fox. There are going to be so many projects lined up for him this fall. There is a reason to jump into the theatres this season.
Now there is a chance that Alexander Payne’s upcoming film will have George Clooney in the movie. The film will be based on the book of the same name written by Kaui Hart Hemmings.
The novel tells the story of a besieged and wryly introspective attorney Matt King: a land rich descendant of Hawain royalty and American missionaries and entrepreneurs. He begins to wrestle with thoughts of getting rid of all the estates and inherited land or sell it to a real estate developer. But even more critical, Matt also has to decide whether to pull on his wife, Joanie, who has been in an irreversible coma for 23 days following a boat racing accident. He also finds out that his wife has been having an affair with the real estate developer. So he embarks on a journey with his two daughters a 10 year old and 17 year old from rehab.
This is almost a perfect story for Alexander Payne. I just wish he takes up this story and makes it his own. His brand of drama is truly seminal. I adored his work on About Schmidt. It has been quite some since he has challenged that universe. So it will be interesting pairing of Alexander Payne and George Clooney for this film.
