Trailer Watch: Better Things

Better Things is a fitting allegory to a life less lived.

BetterthingsThe British film industry has suddenly been created some gems. Last year they had the evocative Hunger by Steve McQueen and the senile Happy Go Lucky. But this year there is Duane Hopkins who has released his powerful Better Things. He has been called a major force. There have been comparisons drawn to Lynne Ramsay and many of the modern neo realists. The film is a unique voice and we will put a review of it in the next couple of days.

It is a lyrical yet powerful piece of filmmaking by the young lad. It takes a very harsh look into the lives of people living drugs and misery. Many of the actors are people who have been through drug abuse at various stages of their lives. The film doesn’t play with their sensibilities and is also not judgmental of their actions. There is a certain erosion of feelings that can be clearly seen in the trailer. Watch it after the break and tell us what you think.
