Maggie Gyllenhaal in a Vibrator comedy

Maggie Gyllenhaal plays an interesting test subject next.

Hugh Dancy will join Maggie Gyllenhaal in a vibrator comedy called Hysteria. She will also be working with her husband in a Bill Monroe biopic. The vibrator film will be a period piece and will trace the beginnings of the instrument. It already sounds hilarious.

The rest of the cast include Jonathan Pryce and Rupert Everett. The film is written by Stephen and Jonah Lisa Dyer and will be directed by Tanya Wexler.

It will be set in the Victorian era where Dancy and Pryce will play doctors treating cases of hysteria in London. It is a condition said to be characterized at the time by a woman’s irritability, anger, or unexplained tears.” Dancy and his friend want to treat this condition and stop this unruly behavior in women. Gyllenhaal will play Pryce’s daughter and also the funny test subjects.

The details are quite sketchy, but it is certainly going to be a joy ride. Gyllenhaal will be seen in another insane comedy after her star turn in movies like Secretary and Cecil B. Demented. So we will have to wait it out for this one.
