Trailer watch: The Illusionist

The Illusionist will take us on a journey and leave us half way.

There has been a lot a talk about this animation and the controversy behind who is entitled to the story and who the inspiration behind this beautiful tale is. Chomet took a lot of trouble to bring this film to the screen. Check out the trailer below and tell us what you think of this unique vision. The footage is mostly from the Russian trailer and some really well done montage sequence. But there is also some new material not seen before. The film is based on a un made script by Jacques Tati. The main character from this animation is also based on him.

The Illusionist is based on a dying breed of stage entertainers who are trying to make their ends meet in this age. Their tricks are quite old now and their forced to accept increasingly obscure assignments in fringe theaters, at garden parties and in bars and cafes.

On the way towards all these places he encounters an innocent young girl who will slowly but certainly change his life forever. So the illusionist begins to be followed by this little girl who thinks the tricks done by the illusionist are real. She begins to gift him stuff. It reaches a point that the old man cannot really tell her that magic is not real.

But before anything really happens she comes of age and falls in love. The Illusionist becomes a wiser man once she leaves her.
