Trailer Watch: Hunger Games showcases the game

Jennifer Lawrence shines in The Hunger Games trailer.

The first theatrical trailer of the film is out. The teaser did not really reveal that much. Jennifer Lawrence plays Katniss Everdeen. The trailer shows us a future world where children are used for entertainment. Jennifer Lawrence plays a variation of her character in her powerful debut Winter Bone.

Jennifer plays Katniss who volunteers to enter the titular games, an annual event in which a boy and girl from each district of the dystopian nation of Panem are sent to battle to death. This sounds like a PG version of the powerful Battle Royale.

Suzanne Collins, who wrote the best-selling book on which The Hunger Games is based, explains she came up with the idea while channel surfing. The trailer does have it moments and it is directed by the talented Gary Ross. So we will keep our eyes open for this one.
