Review: The Lego Movie is a Must Watch for all Ages

Lego Movie is a comedy fit for all ages

Lego Movie is an animated film created by Warner Bros. starring Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Will Ferrell, with Morgan Freeman, and Liam Neeson. Both Phil Lord, and Christopher Miller direct the movie. The animation is CGI but is animated to look like Stop-Motion. Lego Movie is a comedy fit for all ages.

The story follows Emmett, voiced by Chris Pratt; he is the everyman who follows the rules and instructions on everything he does. He is a construction worker who happens to discover the only way to save the Lego world from the evil Lord Businessman, voiced by Will Ferrell. Emmett is aided by Wildstyle, (Banks), Batman (Arnett), and Vitruvius (Freeman) as they must work together to win. All the characters are interesting and each has their own heroic moments in the film.

The most interesting thing the film has is the Lego World itself. The Lego world is very nice to look at as everything is made out of Legos and are very possible to make. Each area that the characters visit is each interesting in their design. All the areas visited include Western, Fantasy, Cloud heaven, and the City. The only downside to all this is that each world visited either has too much focus when another will only be seen for a few minutes. It was fun to see all the creations.

All the voice actors are entertaining and fun to listen to. They are all funny in their own way. The only voice actor I had a difficult time with was Chris Pratt as Emmett. He was too generic and somewhat boring and predictable at times, but that was the intent of the writers making an average guy the main character. The best performances would probably be Morgan freeman as Vitruvius, Will Arnett as Batman, and Liam Neeson as Good-cop/Bad cop. Morgan Freeman is a talented voice actor and gives his best to his roles in films. Liam Neeson has a great contrast between both his characters to make it both friendly then menacing. What made Will Arnett as Batman fun to watch was how much fun he had with his character, he was serious, comical, and sarcastic. Elizabeth Banks did a good job with her character. She was serious, funny and also touching at times. Will Ferrell was a nice villain. He covered his character bases well enough.

The comedy was both nostalgic and pop cultural references. There is always something happening in the movie that can make people laugh. There is comedy for everyone in the movie. Old Lego jokes for those who played it as a kid. It has modern jokes for those who like modern cultural jokes. It also has character jokes for the Lego Characters like Superman, Gandalf, Batman, Space man and several more. The animation is high energy and also realistic for Lego pieces to do. Even explosions and fire and smoke are made of Legos. It tries to make people think that it is stop motion animation style but it is computer generated. It is well done.

Overall the Lego movie is well done. It has a good story, good animation, and is very funny. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. Enjoy!
