This came as a complete shocker to me but it is true. New York Post reported that Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead of an apparent drug overdose — in the bathroom with a hypodermic needle still in his arm — inside a Greenwich Village home. A personal assistant found Hoffman’s body in an apartment at 35 Bethune St. and called 911 around 11:30 a.m.
In 2006, Hoffman publicly admitted that he nearly succumbed to substance abuse graduating from NYU’s drama school, but got sober in rehab. Last year, Hoffman reportedly checked himself into rehab again for ten days after relapsing in 2012. Hoffman’s latest film ‘A Most Wanted Man’ was just premiered at the Sundance Film Festival couple of weeks back. He was also set to reprise his role as Plutarch Heavensbee in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay sequels so it will be interesting to see what the studio does in response to his death. He was a great actor and had played some amazing roles in his career and he will sorely be missed by everyone. Our thoughts go out to his family, friends and most importantly his fans.
R.I.P Philip Seymour Hoffman.
