The Adventure Handbook was touted to be the most expensive comedy ever. It has finally got a really strong cast in Jonah Hill, Jason Schwartzman and Jason Segel. The director for the film has not really zeroed in.
Jonah Hill said that they were going to shoot this year. He said “[It] would be great [if it were ‘Goonies’ for twentysomethings]. I think we just really liked ‘Indiana Jones’ and ‘Goonies’ and adventure movies from the ’80s when we were growing up. We just thought it would be really cool to write a movie with guys in their mid-to-late 20s going on an adventure thinking it’s going to be like Indiana Jones, and it turns out more like ‘Three Kings.'[Laughs] Like, oh! There’s guys actually trying to kill us. It’s really fun.”
The project was penned by Matt Spicer and Max Winkler. The film will tell the story of four childhood friends who embark on a global adventure inspired by the stories of explorers detailed in Mike Conefrey’s book “The Adventure’s Handbook: Life Lessons from History’s Great Explorers.
Segel will play the role of a talented musician and also an alcoholic. He ends being a backup piano player. Hill will play an engineer isolated from his family and Schwartzman will play a spoiled and cowardly three time Grammy winner. They have not cast the fourth friend yet.
The film is directed by Akiva Schaffer who is known for his work on SNL. We don’t know what to expect from this. The script was really not that great.
