Margarethe Von Trotta’s Vision

Vision speaks the language of love in ways you can't imagine.

vision

Margarethe Trotta’s new film seems to be making headlines for its revision of an age old subject. The film seems to be a revisiting of Nun Cinema by great cinema greats. The film with a misleading name Vision explores the mysterious machinations of Love. It surrounds the life of Hildegard von Bingen who was an author, magistra and a composer.

The film shows the struggles Von Bingen faces with faith and is not sure what is holding her up. It seems to be away from the older depictions of Nuns in films by using several close-ups and no use of the composer’s music. There is a sense of disquiet that seeps into the narrative that will surely making the festival organizers wish for a better release. The film is not a miniaturist film in any regard. But it does speak the voice of love in all its intonations.
