Till now Joe Wright has been having a good time making decisions with films which he would like to make. He turned into a rage after his work with Keira Knightley on Pride and Prejudice. He followed that up with the powerful Atonement.
At the present moment he has gone haywire with his work on the upcoming film with Cate Blanchett called Hanna. He probably lost his head because he is shifting genres and probably influenced by the unusual take Hayao Miyazaki took for his movie Ponyo. Joe is planning to take on a live action Little Mermaid.
The film will be based on the script by Abi Morgan. Wright’s version will be based on the popular puppet show at the London Little Theater company. As you all know by now it tells the classic tale of a young mermaid who gives her life in the sea to love a human prince. But there will certainly be something unique to all this if Joe Wright eventually takes this up.
